I am trying to remember a book I adored when I was in my early teens - I have a feeling the title was something like 'like a penny candle' or 'a candle for candlemas day' - sure it definately had the word 'candle' in the title. The author wrote quite a few books that were published in the late 70's. Seem to think they all had a vague 'ghost' theme. Anyone help?!

Would it be 'Light a Penny Candle' by Maeve Binchey, although it doesn't look as though it's a childrens book?

Ruth M Arthur - "A Candle in her Room"

You may mean Lark Rise To Candleford part of a trilogy with Over To Candleford and Candleford Green written by Flora Thompson.
They are well worth a read anyway.
