I find complete silence unnerving.
Always got to have the radio on or some youtube music vid or the such like when I'm on my own. Even if I'm reading I have to have some background. Obviously different if I have friends around and have some 'real' company but as soon as they are gone the radio goes on. I don't have a tv which most people always seem to have on in the background somewhere.
What is it about silence that we don't like (or perhaps you do)
Thanks.
A couple of years ago I was decorating a friends house while he was at work. The electric went mid morning and I was left to spend the rest of the day without a radio and working in complete silence...I hated it. Just me and my thoughts
I have taken to walking recently - 5-7 miles usually at night in the darkness - i like the quiet of that - not completely quiet because the world is noisy but I wouldnt want to listen to music whie I am out and about
Doesn't bother me at all.
I'm very often up and about before anyone else, so it's into kitchen, make coffee, grab crossword and completely forget to turn Radio/TV on, next one in usually does it ;o)
Baldric,
strange that you mention that.
In the morning I actually *need* silence, just getting my thoughts together for the day etc.
Its the rest of the day that becomes unnerving without some kind of background noise.
Mr.sam usually switches TV on and then plugs his earphones in while listening/watching iPad. That really annoys me and switch the TV off. I appreciate silence.
The whir of my computer's fan is enough to stop me screaming, Nailit, but if I want to actually do anything (such as researching the answer to a post on AB) I need the radio on before I can fully get my brain into gear. I simply can't function without noise.
