I've just finished this book and have to say it was amazing. However it broke my heart. I cried and cried and I'm moping around today. Anyone else been moved by this book? My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy for being so upset by this book..

Yes, one has so much emotionally invested in the couple by the end, having been through so much with them, that the end is very moving and sad. It is not unremittingly downbeat though because the next generation seems better adjusted to controlling the genetic defect and there is some hope there. I hope I've not spoiled anything for those yet to read it. I and other people I know who have read it nearly gave up in the early stages, unsure that we would enjoy the unusual style. Having stuck with it we are all very glad we did so. A marvellous book. BTW we blokes can appear very insensitive but has the bf actually read the book?
Absolutely fantastic book, and yes it made me cry aswell. I lent it to a friend who declared it her favourite ever book!
I'm really glad you've posted on this. I thought it was a fantastic book, even though I had to often stop to do a "brain check" to get my head around some of the events described. In the end, you know what's coming but can't do anything to stop it - just like the main characters, and yes, that made me cry ........ especially when the scene some 40/50 years on is described (don't want to be too specific for anyone who's not yet read it).
YES! I had the same experience with this book, and think it's definitely the best book I've read in years. The idea itself was beautiful and unique, plus as rooftrouser says, it's the emotional attachment you make to the couple that makes the novel so wonderful. Glad you loved it as much as I did! However, i have heard a lot of bad reviews of this book :(
Yes, a fantastic book, the only other book that left me emotionally 'exhausted' was "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt, give it a go..
an amazing book. I thought that it was a great testament to the human spirit, how both partners coped with such a disjointing disability
Nah, I thought it was sh!te.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were so touched by the book they've bought the rights to make it into a film.. noooooooo!!!!  very rarely does the film do justice to a good book.  I would be interested to see how Henry and Claire are portrayed in film.
Crumbs! I thought as I read it, that for once I was reading a modern novel that they definitely couldn't make into a film. I wonder if it will ever actually make it to the screen. Potentially the most confusing film ever I should think.
BTW I agree with jocasta about Donna Tartt, although I actually preferred her "The Little Friend"

Oh my goodness I'm so glad someone else feels like this. I've been moping around the house all day (I finished the book at 3am last night) and everyone thinks I'm crazy.

I really miss henry and clare, its so strange

O M G. I was finishing the book in bed, and burst into tears when Henry caught hypothermia. I knew then what was going to happen. I sobbed, really sobbed. I continued crying til the end of the book and cried myself to sleep. In the morning my face was a total mess!!! But even with that mess, my recommendation has led two other people in my office to go out and buy the book (not giving this one away), and one read it in a weekend, the other is rationing herself because she is enjoying it so much she wants it to last.
What an incredible book. It had me spellbound. It did take me a while to get into it, but it was just the most beautiful love story I have ever read. It highlighted everything we all want, yet everything we all fear, all at the same time, with the time traveller twist. I keep going over the book and thinking 'if only,' but there are so many 'if onlys' in life, and perhaps that is part of the point.
I have also just finished The Time Travellers Wife, I have to totally agree with you! It really touched me, once I had started it I literally could not put it down and sat up all night to read it. I too cried my eyes out! I read in the blurb that it would break your heart and I did not believe it but it truly did. I find myself wanting to find my very own "Henry" even though I am very happily engaged!!
I am telling everyone I meet to read this book...I love it!!

what do your respective partners think of this book ? my girlfriend was miserable for weeks.  sure it`s a good book but really?
