You may be disappointed. The show itself is superb as usual, but, and it's a bit but for me, the crashing chandelier does not appear at the beginning, and this is one of the reasons why I wanted to see it again. To say I was disappointed is the understatment of the century!!

^ big but
I'm going to see it in October in Edinburgh. I've never seen it before at the theatre so I don't know any differently! It's the music I love anyway :)
I saw it when it opened with Michael Crawford, so that was quite a while back. I stayed to the end, and the chandelier crashed, i think?
i really didn't like the show or most of the music.

erin - if you've never seen it before, it won't be a problem for you, but I've seen it several times and was really disappointed when the chandelier didn't appear at the beginning. It's mentioned at least twice throughout the show, so it really is essential. The rest of the show is, as usual, brilliant however and you're in for a treat.
I can't wait! I've only ever seen the film and the 25th anniversary show on TV. I think i'll be disappointed when it's not Gerard Butler!! haha ;)
I found the chandelier a bit of a disappointment when I saw the show in London. Maybe in its day it was a bit of a suprise and a great special effect but I was expecting more than it to just swing down on to the stage.

I wouldn't think it be a great loss to the show now but sorry if it disappointed you chaptazbru, did you enjoy it otherwise?
Question Author
Yes, I did enjoy the show maidup, but I'm afraid the loss of the chandelier was a big disappointment to me and other people in the theatre too. You could hear comments such as "where's the chandelier" all around ! I've seen it six times now, so think that's me all Phantom'd out !

erin - I've never heard Gerard Butler, Dave Willets was my favourite. John Owen Jones was the singer this time and he was brill.
Chaptazbru - Gerard Butler was the Phantom in the DVD. It is a great DVD and he is my favourite Phantom.

I doubt if I would go to see a touring show again. I recently went to see Buddy at Maidstone and it was truly dire.
He's not the best singer, Chap, but he's gorgeous!!

erin - Dave Willetts is quite dishy too !

vivkins - I love the theatre, don't give up on it !
can i ask chaptazbru, did you see the show in Manchester. Some friends of ours are going by coach on monday night, and weve promised to pick them up from the coach station when they get home but they have no idea what time it would be. If we knew the approximate time the show finished we could add on the travelling time and have a rough idea of when to expect them? thanks (oh and too add they have seen the show many times, so will ask them what they thought afterwards)
Question Author
mandy - yes saw it in Manchester. Finished at 10.05. Would love to know what they thought of it.
No don't give up on touring shows Viv, but try bigger theatres such as Canterbury or Bromley. As far as I can remember the thetares in Maidstone are quite small and the shows are cut right down to fit in and at the end of their lives by then (played all the biggies endlessly).
Question Author
I couldn't understand your post for a moment there Maidup as my name is Viv, but I then realised you must be talking to Vivkins !
Question Author
mandy - you said you'd get back to me to let me know what your friends thought of this production of Phantom - I'm waiting (lol) ....
sorry, chaptazbru, Ive been working all week, and havent even switched laptop on till tonite. I didnt speak to our friends (OH went and picked them up, i was busy sleeping lol) but he said they really enjoyed it. they were a few rows from the front so could hear every word very clearly and saw everything (they are pensioners so being this close helps) and said the show as a whole was as good as, maybe even better, than when they saw it in London. They go to a lot of shows/musicals theatre etc and always tell us honestly what they thought and always give praise where its due! Im glad they had a brill time.
Question Author
Thanks mandy, it seems it's only me who missed the chandelier then! Although I was talking to a lady in the park yesterdat when dog walking and she knew some people who went and they were disappointed too. The rest of the show was excellent though.
