I have lost my Carlos Ruiz Zafon 'Angel's Game' book that I was immensley enjoying but can't seem to find it! So I am on the search for a new book to get my teeth into...

Any recommendations for any amazing crime/mystery/romance (or all three combined) books people have read and enjoyed? I love murder mysteries with a bit of romance - but especially the mystery part. Just really in the mood to get myself stuck into something.

Thanks guys! :-)

I liked The Angel's Game - and you have to find it - you must read the end!

Have you read The Shadow of the Wind, also by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Excellent.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini is superb! Unforgettable.
I second the above..Hi Naomi. The Shardlake Novels by C.J. Samson are quite engrossing and a bit different, with an interesting slant on mediaeval history.
If you were ever looking for something almost guaranteed to have you nodding off I'd recommend The Glass Bead Game, by Hermann Hesse.
have you ever actually read agatha christie's books? they are an engrossing read, and very clever, but can be passed over now they are always on tv!

also dick francis' are a great read, (each loosely connected to horses) but always well researched!
Winter in Madrid by C J Sansom ( he who wrote the Shardlake books ).It has the lot ,spies, murder and a love affair .
I'll second A Thousand Splendid Suns .
The Man from Beijing by Henning Mankell .
The novels by Camilla Lackberg ,but you have to start at the beginning with The Ice Princess.
I agree with Naomi there, you must finish Angels Game. And shadow of the Wind is one of my favourites. You might like to try some of John Connolly's books they have that mystery element as well as being murder stories
Not very highbrow maybe but a great story right to the end. The Stand by Stephen King.

I've read I should think about 95% of Agatha Christie's - I am a massive fan and love the era and everything about them! Hercule Poirot in particular rocks my world!!! ;-)
I love novels set in the past - those Shardlake novels sound really really tempting thanks jomifl! Naomi I will get that second Zafon novel definitely. A thousand splendid suns I'm afraid I started but never finished...its on my shelf however!
Daisy..if you do get the shardlake books, try to read them in sequence as although they are 'stand alone' the characters come and go through the sequence giving a degree of continuity. Winter in Madrid I also second. All sorts of skulduggery and treachery, love and death in the Spanish civil war.
Daisyme do you enjoy the new " nordic noir " thriiler genre which inspired tv's Wallender and The Killing ? If you do could I recommend " Unrequited Love " by Sven Willi Seeuaaggen
Another good series are the Bryant and May mysteries by Christopher Fowler .
Set in London ,two ageing detectives who head up The Peculiar Crimes Unit .Very mysterious and hilariously funny .
I think I have the same tastes in books as naomi, Have read both the Carlos Ruiz Zafon books and am currently reading A Thousand Spendid Suns, its hard to put it down, a friend lent it to me and I had my doubts if it was my sort of book. How wrong I was!!!!!
A Perfect Proposal by Katie Fford is the book I am reading at the moment.
A bit girlie for a bloke JohnnyBoy12
If you like your crime fiction a bit on the light side, give M.C. Beaton's books about Agatha Raisin a go, they are lighthearted, I call them mind candy and are just the thing for a grey day by the fire. Start with the first one as they sort of link in to the next book - Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death
William Boyd is good, although I have never really understood Brazzaville Beach by him, I definitely recommend Restless though.
I'm enjoying The Undrowned Child by Michelle Lovric ...

craft48 introduced my to the Jack Reacher Novels. I've nearly finished the first one and I'm really enjoying it. Lee Child is the author. Here's a link to his book in order of publication.
