I'm going to be housebound for the next few weeks........and can read without interruption, or guilt, or expectation that I ought to be doing 'something else'.

So, I shall be heading off to Waterstones soon.

Can you provide me with a list of books I ought to consider buying ?
A brief synopsis would also be useful.

Thankyou, matey-peeps :o)

what sort of stuff do you like and don't you have a local library?
Do you like a particular genre ?
the gruffalo?
we are going on a bear hunt?
peter and jane
the gingerbread man all classics lol
depends what type of book I can recommend lots of historical novels but you might not like them
Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese
and
One Day by David Nicholls.

Both very different books (both fiction) but kept me absolutely riveted - especially the David Nicholls one (he wrote Starter for Ten).
Question Author
I genuinely like all sorts.........some genres I prefer to others, however, a well-written book on a subject I wouldn't usually choose would not necessarily be dismissed.

I'd prefer to buy rather than use the library.
A Drink with Shane MacGowan was interesting. I don't think I need to explain it much. His then GF interviewed him which made it more interesting than the bog standard biography. She was a journalist.

Round Ireland with a fridge - again, self explanatory. Very amusing.
It might help jth if we knew what kind of books you enjoy reading?
Question Author
Please.........don't try and qualify your suggestions; just fire away with the titles and a brief plot outline.
i should have typed faster lol
Well, I've just started the reading the Twilight series, and I'm enjoying that.

Synopsis:

Teen schoolgirl from Phoenix moves to live with her father in a crappy, rainy town. Some guys at her school turn out to be sexy vampires.

Err ...

... that's it !
Bill Brysons "notes on a small Island" is informative and fun
Oh..the 'Round Ireland with a fridge' was a drunken bet.
Conn Iguldens Ghenkis Khan series tells his story from birth to death but as a novel Great author
plot hmmmmmmmmmmm ??
we are going on a bear hunt
they cant go under it
they cant go over it
can they go through it??
you will have to read it to find out !!!!!!!!!! pmsl
I was persuaded to try the Twilight series. I quite enjoyed the first one... but then I thought they went rapidly downhill and soon lost interest.

Please try One Day by David Nicholls jth - if you don't enjoy it, I will eat my hat (turd-coloured wool. Very coarse. It would choke me.) x
We know that in your own opinion, you are far superior to other subscribers, but surely you could let us mere plebs, know your likes in literature.
the kindness of strangers by kate adie - most of wilbur smith - the seven lost trails of Africa by hedley chilvers - the story of an African farm by olive schreiner - hold my hand I'm dying and the land god made in anger by john gordon davis
Daft....where did you get that opinion from?
William Horwood wrote the wolves of time pt 1 & 2 - two books with a slightly surreal feel -absolutely enthralling - I thoroughly enjoyed reading them. check him out on the web, he has lots.
