I read this book about this boy and his shadow. His shadow was pretty much his side kick and helped him fight. I don't remember a whole lot about it . I know it was a fantasy novel and that it was a three book series.

hhmm I thought it sounded like "Shadows Fall", till you said it as part of a trilogy, can you remember anything else?

Author Orson Scott Card, Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow, Speaker for the Dead, Shadow of the Hegemon etc. More than 3 now. Some concentrate on Ender, others on Bean, his 'shadow'. All very good.

well, the Wizard of Earthsea series, by Ursula K. LeGuin has Ged, the protagonist, conjure a shadow that he has to somehow defeat. Not sure if that's the one...
