Good evening viv. I have read all the books by both authors and my favourite,is Roy Grace. I watched the first TV adaptation of DCI Banks and was very disappointed. IMO Stephen Tompkinson in the lead role was a very bad choice. Also,as was said earlier, there is too much poetic licence involved.
The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly in which Bosch's half brother Mickey Haller is introduced is a very fast paced and exciting read. Bosch only plays a supporting role in this and the book is all the better for it.
Thanks Shaneystar2 for the tip about David Downing. I'll start with Zoo Station and see how it goes.
An author I am reading at the moment is J. Robert Janes. His books are set in WW2 Occupied France and are about a Chief Inspector from the Surete and a Gestapo officer working together to solve crimes. They can be a bit over-complicated but they do give a picture of life for French people under the Occupation.
Thanks for the recommendation EdmundD .I looked them up on Fantastic Fiction and they sound right up my street so have ordered a copy (used) from Amazon of the first one in the series ,Mayhem ,to see if I like them .
Shaneystar2, I am on the 7th one in the series and still enjoying them. The one I found quite a bit of a difficult read was the 3rd one, Kaleidoscope. I read some reviews on GoodReads and they seemed to echo my own thoughts.
If you are interested in that particular period (as I am) you may like Alan Furst's books, if you haven't already tried them. They aren't police procedurals but he's my favourite author for that prewar European period.
