Good evening viv. I have read all the books by both authors and my favourite,is Roy Grace. I watched the first TV adaptation of DCI Banks and was very disappointed. IMO Stephen Tompkinson in the lead role was a very bad choice. Also,as was said earlier, there is too much poetic licence involved.

Question Author
Hugh Bonneville is the right shape, but he's not good looking enough imo.
Oh dear I didn't realise that link was that old dave !
No, Hugh Boneville doesn't really cut it as Roy Grace .
Can't think who I would choose for him .Clive Owen perhaps ...ooooh:)
I like David Morrisey .I think he would have been good as Banks .
I thought Morgan Freeman was good as Alex Cross, but considering his age, and in the books his grandmother lived with him it wasn't really credible.
Actually, David Morrissey is a good shout for either, Shaney. Forgot about him.
Question Author
I agree David Morrisey would have been good as Banks, as long as he lightened up a bit, Tomkinson is just too miserable.

There's no mention of Annie's baby in the latest book. Does she only have one in the series on TV?
Annie Cabot has never had a baby in the books .
I think they take a bit of poetic licence with TV and film adaptions sometimes They're never really true to the books .
The only television I have ever seen that was practically word for word from the book was Brideshead Revisited .
Montalbano in the Andrea Camilleri series
Troy in the John Lawton books
Bernie Gunther in the Philip Kerr books
And Martin Beck in the Sjowall & Wahloo 10 book series
Who was the 'posh' detective whose wife got shot. I think her name was Helen.

That was Inspector Lynley Tilly .
No help for me re the posh detective?
Thank you, shaney!
He had a Jenson Interceptor. Yilly !.
In the books he drives a Bentley, Yont.
Does he I'm impressed[i, on the tv it's a Jenson [i]even more impressed].
Isn't it Jensen?
Yes it is, Yilly, built in West Brom.
Another detective I can't think of is one who lived in a lovely flat overlooking a Cathedral and he had a sister who was a doctor. Her husband died. He was a farmer.
