'Bastard' now passes through the filter because someone complained that it is a word which comes up in crosswords. However, when I claimed (as a single word) that Wan King is a village in Northern China, it came out in the Ed's test thread as Auditing; although the filter was supposedly switched off.

So is w.t.f (without the fullstops)

What's the problem? it's still implied swearing.
I agree, same with w t f.
I mean you have to *know* in order to consider it an obscenity, and if you *know* what the abbreviation means, you're not going to be offended by it.
Furthermore - I believe that the automatic substitution with "For Funk's Sake" and "What The Funicular" just underlines something that would otherwise go un-noticed.
The swear filter does throw up some surprising results. I am still trying to understand how yesterday my posting of the word "b i n t" (admittedly disrespectful) was replaced with "lady", yet I can say arse and tit to my heart's content. (No more elbows for me!)
Perhaps some of the 'milder' swearwords are being slowly 'de-criminalised' a bit like the de-classification of pot !
I would disagree that "for funks sake" draws attention to itself.

though What The Funicular is random enough you may have a point there AP.
I think you should all stop fcuking whinging...
I thought that's what AB was for ? ;-)
I mean AOG hosts a daily whingeathon week in week out ;-)
Right on, AP. Let's get him!
If I do find it necessary to swear in the columns of AB it will be in Welsh.

So start learning them now.

Oh good, I needed to clear my throat, I'm off to try swearing in welsh.
Hi Chuck........Shinach. :-)

Ron.
I remember once I typed Offset Mortgage and the word offset was filtered out, presumably because of the F F S letters in the word, and replaced by some random phrase which completely messed up my post. I think this problem with OFFSET has been rectified now- we'll see when I have submitted this.
The filter doesn't allow for real words - a crossword clue to do with smelting included the word s la g but the filter substituted a row of asterisks - really helpful for a crossword!

I don't think that follows, AP, just as knowing swearwords doesn't mean you won't be offended by them. I know most of them (I think) but I don't much like reading or hearing them and am happy that AB replaces most of them. People should be able to converse without them. Save them for when you hit a thumb with a hammer.
The most common Welsh swearword sounds almost identical to its English equivalent, except that it is spelt with two For Funks Sake, a w instead of a u and no k.
I shall resend the above as I forgot about the filter! LOL'
