It has troubled me for a while that after a long period away, the 'Ethel' that appears now writes in a different way.

While mulling over this thread

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/ChatterBank/Que stion744171.html

it suddenly came to me.
The original Ethel said recently that she is profoundly deaf!

noone knows

nor does anyone kn ow where he she is

so its no surprise there are often irregularities

but none that interesting to make me wonder :0)
Well, you've really got me confused, PB.

To the best of my knowledge, the only person on AB who uses the non-existent word 'imposterer' (rather than the correct ''imposter') is Dot. In fact, it's her trade mark. So now you've got me wondering who you really are! ;-)

Ooh err
Maybe she had her ear phones turned up.

I think 'Ethel' may actually be SgtRock 'cos he is also obviously profoundly deaf....
lol does this mean i have started a trend Chris ! I am not PB trust me, anyway, Ethel has such a very droll sense of humour she/he may have been saying he/she was profoundly deaf in a droll way lol
Hi Dot,

I look forward to the Oxford English Dictionary including 'imposterer' and crediting its origin to you ;-)
actually i don't think it is a none existant word as much as a word needed to describe what the imposterers do, if some one imposters you, they are an imposterer, it's like an occupational thing, a plasterer plasters, a decorator decorates, an imposterer imposters, in the plural, serial imposterers are rife on this site.
Sorry, Dot.

You ought to know that I always check my facts before posting ;-)

Yes (boring internet nerd that I am), I both checked my dictionary and Googled 'Imposterer' before submitting that post.

As I've stated, I regard that 'word' as your trade mark. There was a time when you were frequently complaining about people who were trying to take over your identity. It would have been hard to work out who was the real Dot Hawkes if you hadn't repeatedly used that invented word in your posts! ;-)
that's very interesting Buenchico...I am obviously naive...
lol sorry I wasn't disagreeing with you Chris, I know it's not a dictionary word! I was just thinking it maybe is one they missed out ! lol
I'm beginning to think that this thread should be in Phrases & Sayings > Word origins ;-)

I know that Dot lives in the north-west of England (not far from Preston, I believe) but I don't know if she's originally from there. Perhaps 'imposterer' is a regional variation of the 'correct' word?
well I'm from Yorkshire and have never heard of it...
I'm from Yorkshire too, I never needed to use it until people started impostering me and so i called them imposterers. lol! simple as that! If they aren't imposterers, what is the plural when someone imposters someone repeatedly? Lol I'm away to bed, it's too taxing !
Oh, Craft1948, it's good to know that there are people around here who can speak proper (Yorkshire) English. I spent 20 years in Sheffield. As soon as I go back, I automatically use 'correct' English, such as:
"Thar go-ez downt row-ud like, ant lewks far a ginnel ont left. Then tha go-ez darn that ginnel, reet tut end. Tharl *** owt weer thar wonts to be"
Oooh! I've been censored! The asterisks in that post should say 'come', but in a Yorkshire accent!
well bu$$er me Buenchico...I can't understand a bloody word you've typed......
Craft1948: You must be from the 'posh' bit of Yorkshire. (e.g. Harrogate?). I taught council estate kids on the north of Sheffield and I'm certain that they'd identify with what I wrote ;-)
