Not so slowly, going mad here ....... Right , I have Orange Livebox, connected to my Vista running PC, no probs. But I cannot get my old pc to work, on the Yellow (2nd port).

My old pc running XP, does not have any ethernet ports. So I bought a USB-Ethernet adaptor ( I know this piece of hardware is working, tested it on newer PC) but it is not working on the old one, the old one only has USB 1, I know this means things are slower with this? But for elimination, Would this stop the pc connecting??? Thanks. jacey.

no USB 1.1 will still work (just as you say slower... but it will still be faster than your internet connection)

if you goto the control panel and open network connections then unplug and plug in the USB adaptor you should see a local area connection appearing and disappearing when you plug in or unplug the adapter if it is being recognised by the PC. if thats not happening then the drivers for the USB adapter are not installed correctly

Thankyou for replying CF, I have just done the above, and all I have in network connections is BT and speedtouch both saying disconnected. I think you could well be right about the drivers, I ran the disc that came with the adaptor, but don't honestly know what I was doing ??

PS I do still get the notice up about it being better to use USB 2 though.

Right. I have installed the drivers. I have a box called USB-Ethernet Diagnostics & EEPROM Programming Utility. Which is displaying manufacturer, Product ID etc, but wants filled in 'Inputs for USB-Ethernet Configuration/Verification.......Enter ther inputs.. Start Address ... 6 boxes to be filled in. ??????
