Can something not be done about the pathetic, pointless and completely un-humorous questions that are appearing all over the site. Particularly in body and soul of course. I enjoy coming on to AB to look at the genuine questions but these always get pushed out of the way in favour of rubbish such as, What is the best way to chat up a goat. And please don't say, if you don't like it don't read it because when a whole page is full of them it's pretty hard to avoid them. To me it seems like the internet equivalent of people liking the sound of their own voices.

Must admit that I seldom stray outside of the Quizzes and Puzzles section milly143, where there is rarely any of this inane prattle.
However, I do like to visit the AB suggestions pages on occasions to keep in touch with the "outside world", and have to agree that many of the threads posted have very little to offer in the way of rational suggestions. ☺
I suppose humour is a personal thing.....
Milly 143 I absolutely agree, but don't think anything will be done about it as I posted on here the other day asking why the Ed was moving 'rubbish' threads into here as this is supposed to be for Suggestions only, but still the rubbish gets moved here, it looks like if it has lots of answers the Ed is not inclined to delete the drivel despite saying this is not a Chat site it is a Q & A site. The Site Rules are not being enforced properly and as such leaves it open to the abuse that is currently subjected to.
it sounds like you don't really enjoy the site! I don't mean to be funny but if it's so bad why not find another site?

I must admit that I like to answer both the serious questions and also the 'drivel'.

I could probably also be accused of posting drivel!!
im new on here although i havent posted much yet but i find them sort of questions quite amusing.
Hi Milly

Laughter is the best medicine they say!

I for one, with a warped sense of humour, but an equally inquisitive mind, find the site hilarious and informative all at the same time.

You have to take from it what you need - but put something back in too.

Sure, we're not going to agree all the time, but rather than lament the 'rubbish' why not rejoice in your uniqueness and pity us poor souls who peddle in harmless daftness, mixed in with some serious debate and enquiry?

Much ado about nothing.
A tempest in a tea-pot
A mountain out of a mole-hill.
There are matters of far greater import.
The jester is closest to the King.
Humour is the balm of a troubled soul.
Have you ever tried chatting up a goat?
I would want to know what to say so as not to appear stupid and say the wrong thing,
Goats have feelings too you know. It's only fair to know the correct way to approach one. I certainly wouldn't go up to one and say 'Hey, square eyes........' and expect any sort of civilised response.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there a large number of goats who read this site. I could name names but I wont. You know who you are.
well said ollie god people moan about everything sont they , why dont millie post some more interesting posts if u r so bored and we are all so beneath you and your very intelligent mind and lack of humor - its a site for the weired and wonderful take it in the right way dont get so uptight , get off your high horse and chill out , life is hard enough people come on ere to relax and have a laugh
casc lol thats the spirit
I've also just noticed that Milly asks that something 'not' be done about stupid questions.

That, in itself is stupid, because nothing has been done about it, rendering the very question invalid...

lmao how sad true ollie
scotchollie doesn't have a very firm grasp of English, but I suppose that's why he's scotchollie?
Scotchollie is an international photojournalist and former newspaper editor.

His comment was a humorous play on the potential implications of a double negative inthe first sentence of the question.

He does not, however, like goats.
If scotchollie was a former newpaper editor, as he claims, he would not have been so stupid as to say 'That, in itself is stupid, because nothing has been done about it, rendering the very question invalid... ' !!

The question does not even have a double negative and, is perfectly valid - and indeed puts the question more firmly than simply putting 'can something be done'.

'Cannot something be done about the state of the roads?' is hardly an invalid question and would not be asked unless nothing had been done!

I'm afraid I disagree.

If one asks 'can something be done about...' it is clearly a request or call to action.

If one asks can something 'not' be done...' it invites the interpretation that, in fact, no action is required.

The point, tautologically, is that the latter, as it appears above, can be interpreted that way. The 'not' is quite unnecessary and the sentence is much more logical when it is removed.

But I suspect that we have a divergence here - those of us who have, perhaps naughtily, chosen to respond in a humourous vein, and others who have approached it from a grammatically correct and purist perspective.

If nothing else, it has sparked some debate and as either is correct, 'vive la difference!'

And I still do not like goats.

scotchollie.....what is your issue with goats?

Do you like female donkey's ?
I had a goat once. Promised her the known world.

But then she left me and took the kids.

So there.
an editor who uses the word 'humourous' is in need of a sub-editor.
