I spose you imagine the new Ed is too young and innocent to know anything about the horror that was ChatterBank, but not so. All novitiates are shown a video (children are banned from the audience) of the relevant period in AB history. Afterwards, they are given a cup of yak's-milk tea and allowed to lie down in a darkened room for several hours. Those who have survived the test are permitted to remain in the organisation.
