Stopping a thread

I know that we can stop email notifications of answers to our threads, (though I don't actually get an alert, the emails are just in the inbox and once a week maybe i wander in there and delete all the 'you have an answer' ones, never see any 'your query ' ones but that's another issue) . Anyway, is there a way that we can stop a thread from any more replies being added. i only ask cos the SR impersonator type troll has posted an untruth again on a thread and made the whole thing trashy. I would have liked the thread removed completely rather than have that loony be associated with it.

I don't see that what you're asking for is necessary. Questions and answers can be reported. The site administrators can then decide what to do. Are you asking for the ability to do this on behalf of the site administrators? If not, this is a bit unclear - could you explain?

Not sure what the connection with emails is.

I assumed you were talking about SR (her/himself), but you made a comment after i posted on your thread, so i kinda wondered!

I explained for all to see about the purpose/fee-is-me thing so that i would have no probs... lol... and look what's happened!

I had already made it clear that i am purpose. I have only had the 2 names and i explained why i was not using the name purpose any more.

For some reason you thought i was SR and *Zeus*... you even said something about me answering my own post with the word 'fine'... i did... lol... and if you had read what i said, you would see it in context.

I posted a question to *Zeus* and when he did not answer, i post an answer... and said: 'Fine'... like a spoilt child, perhaps... lol... but it was in context which is why i said 'Context, woman, context!' to you last night.

And you just called me 'purpose'... i have no problem with that at all... lol... i am very happy for people to call me purpose... but i choose to have a different user name now.

So you do want the ability to remove a question directly - without needing action by the site administrators? Is that what you mean? Sorry for being dense. I can possibly see a case for being able to retract your own question - before any answers appear. But that's obviously something different to what you're after since you mention some garbage posting*. Trouble is, if you've had answers and you then remove your question, the people who've taken the trouble to reply will then wonder what happened to the answers they've submitted, etc. - and you end up with questions like 'why was this removed...' If you don't like a particular answer, or a boardfight breaks out on your question, or whatever, you can just leave it, consider it dead and move on. I don't want to sound picky or anything.

I really am finding this whole thing so very tedious. It is ruining my time on AB and just don't know how much longer i can stand it for, a shame because this was a great site before all the crap started. Dot,as for thinking purpose is sexy Russian or Zeus or whoever, i think you are way off the mark. i think everyone is getting very paranoid and no-one trusts who anyone else is anymore.Why oh why can't people just ignore her if they get wound up by her. I think Dot has hit on something really good here ED. Instead of people hitting the report button let the person responsible for the thread be able to close it when they think it's getting a bit out of hand. When I say out of hand I mean when people like SR start posting inane replies that don't have anything to do with the subject.

Nope - still disagree. So this is because of all the sillyness that's been occurring in B&S?. Honestly, it's like one kid who doesn't like his/her gang talking to the new kid in the playground and putting his/her hand over their mouths. Putting this kind of request forward to the technical team may just make them think, 'why do we need to do all this work just because users can't behave themselves?'. Maybe it'll just make them think, 'here's a simple solution - automatically close all questions that reach 20 answers'. Go for it, ED.
