I have recently bought a number of unmounted watercolour seascapes by T. Castle S.E.A. at a local auction. They are all quite small (apx 5" x 4"). I can't find any information on this artist but his work (all unframed) has been appearing in local auctions (Yorkshire) and I have even seen a number of his watercolours on Ebay. Does anyone know anything about this artist?

Not an artist I've heard of - Have you tried your local Library? Reference may have a list of painters/artists which might list his agent - Try Sotherbys, London, they have a history section that might be able to give you a bio or at least point you in the right direction. If he's local, again talk to local art dealers as its their job to 'sell' an artist. Art Museums - Tate Gallery.

Any help to you?

I have also bought a series of watercolours by T Castle.

All unmounted and sized 8 x 6 inches. Bought in Yorkshire from an Antique shop. I have no information on the artist. Can you help.

I recently saw a number of T. Castle paintings at auction again. I asked the auctioneers about them and was told that T. Castle sent them in himself and does so on a regular basis. Some of the pictures were identical to ones I'd seen before so it appears he has a production line somewhere. The auctioneer could not provide any information about the artist since all he knew was the address to which the proceeds of the sale should be sent. The pictures are of excellent quality but are definitely not antique.
what does S.E.A stand for??? still think watercolors worth 5 each as I have bought 14 of them off of ebay....would still like to know provenance though??

Since I posted the original question I still have made no progress in finding out anything about T. Castle. He/she is very prolific and it doesn't surprise me that the pictures are apearing on eBay. The price, for the quality of the work, is abysmally low and this is because of lack of provenance. Knowing the artist's reluctance to make himself/herself known (according to the selling auctioneers) I would think S.E.A. probably stands for something like Self Employed Artist or Self Educated Artist.

I'm still looking out for info.
I have just been cleaning out the attic and found 24 watercolours by T.castle which I bought in an Auction in Croydon back in the early 1990s.They are of excellent quality.
It seems the artist has been sending their work out to auction for at least two decades.I know nothing about the artist but would like some information if anybody has found out anything in the last couple of years.
Yes, I know (knew) the artist. My father taught him in the 1960s. Trevor and my father were lifelong friends, meeting first in London when my father as very much the Bohemian artist living in Hampsted. By chance both my father and Trevor ended up here in Norfolk. Although Trevor was a watercolour artist, and a prolific one at that, very few people would know that he was actually an art collector and expert of some considerable note. Over years Trevor amassed a vast collection, mostly of watercolours by Victorian artists. This was something my father had recommended he do, as at that time buying quality art in oil paints was expensive. Trevor eventually became a recognised art expert on several major British watercolourists and was an advisor to several of the large auction houses, Bonhams being one. As a family we lost touch with Trevor many years ago, I'm trying to find if he is still about. Hence stumbling upon your post. I hope you find the information of interest. If you would like to know any more please email me - mail @ nialadams dot com
I happen to be a neighbour of Trevor's. Lovely gent who's had a colourful life.
