Is now the time to accept people 'engaging in dialogue'.
It's obviously what so many would like, and it wouldn't detract from the main purposr of Q's and A's.

Yes yes yes silly moo how right you are

While AB Ed occasionally points out, in a pink square, that this is a Question and Answer site, the home page actually says it's a Community Question and Answer site. With a mission statement like that, it's perhaps not surprising if contributors go all communal from time to time and try to talk.

Then again, people who post questions must be disappointed when all the answers are just pointless chitchat. So a subsite somewhere that they can go to in order to discuss their bodies, their hubbies etc might be a good idea.

Sometimes it just isn't possible to give an outright answer to a question, and recently I tried to give a suggestion which may lead to the answer.  How wrong I was to enter into dialogue.  As I had not answered the question totally in full, a further post ask me what was the point in my answer, the person didn't want my life story, they want the name of a song!  So, dialogue would be fine, but why do people have to be so rude?

I think if you answer a question and then engage in dialogue on present form it seems the ED lets it go maybe thats changing?
Its up to the ED if your question or answer is removed you can always contact the ED.
tetherend if someone is rude report that answer, theres no need for rudeness, lively debate of a question is all right if it gets out of hand well thats what the EDs for.
I like Ed's new tactic of stinging smacks to the back of the legs!

A lot of people have suggested adding on a 'chat' wing to this site, but Ed has always refused as it will deviate from the purpose of this site. It's a fine line to draw silly moo, because if Ed says it's ok the chat now, then where does he draw the line when the site just naturally evolves into a chat site, when really it's meant to be a q&a site....if that makes any sense!!!

I think the Ed is extremely fair.  He often leaves chatty threads for a day or two and puts a polite, friendly warning on before removing them.  He has even left the thread which wishes me a Happy Birthday and I expect this will be removed very shortly.  But at least I had time to see it!  He seems to have got the balance just right at the moment.

Sorry Ed, I just think you are a fella - might be wrong.

Although I do enjoy indulging in dialogue - I appreciate it must be difficult for the Ed to please us all - by the way - I am convinved that the Ed is female - as their responses are  considerate, kind and immediate.
