today I tried to say to a fellow aber L O L. This came out as Mwahaha or something similar. Why. and when I put W T F it came out as what the funicular. While I appreciate there may be some things that are unacceptable L O L and W T F are not on the list, and are normal text speak. I found your substitutions both totally unnecessary and annoying.

Morning everyone.

I think you'll find that some people want sweary-word-censorship and others don't. I attempt a happy medium between them.

Sophie won a prize to change a word of her choice, it was to change "lol" to something suitably "halloweeny".

"We are going from the sublime to ridiculous here" - As we do every day on The AnswerBank, let's not rock the boat eh?

Have a good morning everyone.
the site should be suitable for everyone and that includes 7 year olds
All the toys just laying about on the floor wherever they've been thrown must make it really tricky for the ed to get to his desk every morning!
But preferably not exlusively bibblebub, and Ed it's your rowing boat steer over as many waterfalls as you like old son:)

I would add L O L to show I'm joking but I'm too terrified of what might turn up.
Noxxy- just to clarify, when I said you in my previous post, I didn't mean you specifically. I meant you as in everybody.

I know you don't swear on here, as most of us don't, but I'd hate for it to suddenly become acceptable and folks start throwing in obscenities just because they can rather than the text called for it- did that make sense?
Yeah that makes perfect sense- and i'm not actually adverse to starring out words that offend some people ( there are ways around them all anyway) but it's the childish substitutes that really annoy me.
"I would add L O L to show I'm joking but I'm too terrified of what might turn up."

No point living your life in fear Nox, give it a go!
lol
awww :-(
Can I request that lol be substituted by it's expanded form 'laugh out loud' to make it obvious what a ridiculous phrase it is anyway?
Yay go Ed, now that's better:) lol
good thinking, bibblebub. By the time the system's spelt out FYATHYRIO (with stars where appropriate), users will be wondering why they didn't find some smarter way to communicate.

It's an editor's privilege to make the rules. It's the user's privilege to leave if he/she doesn't like the rules. It's not as if anyone pays to use the site,
<goes to google FYATHYRIO>
Robinia- **** you and the horse you rode in on.
^ that's a bit harsh, what had robinia done to deserve that! :)
Haha chuck, if I said that to Robina I'd have to run very fast and very far, she'd kill me!

;-)
Reminds me of when I was young... If I used a 'rude ' word out of context I was told off but used correctly I was simply told there were nicer alternatives Being a difficult child I really pushed the boundaries of that one... but give mum her due she didn't back down...and I soon lost interest...
...<casts a spell to make B00 look like her avatar all day>...

;o)
I always imagine those with ugly avs to be attractive in real life and vice versa,,,sort of 'the not needing to try' concept...
some people just use their passport photos, like me
