yesterday I saw a pair of swans with a very, very young cygnet - isn't it a bit late in the year for them to have young? sadly today when I walked past them it was missing but there are a lot of pike in the water plus millions of foxes around.

Some of the birds round here seem to be on a second clutch - perhaps this was a late one, or a weakling.

Thanks Boxtops - didn't realise they had young so late in the year - or to be honest, hadn't really thought about it much - shame though
