Man, what a night

Re “Friendly fatigue” (July 17): The Manchester United vs. Celtic soccer game was like being at a rock concert with the enthusiasm of the large crowd. Contrary to the story, the stadium was 3/4 full. The announced attendance of 39,139 was pretty accurate. The crowd remained in the stadium for 20 minutes after the game as the Man U. team did a victory lap around the stadium. The Man U. t-shirts at $90 a pop were sold out. No media witnessed the large group of rival supporters singing against each other (yes, singing) for about an hour after the game at Front and Blue Jays Way. There was such a huge audience listening that the traffic was down to one lane eastbound. Some friendly bicycle cops asked the groups to go home and the friendly singers finally did. To both Celtic and Man. U. management, players and fans, a big thank you for an unforgettable Toronto evening.
