Brian, the cat is lonely and is seeking out companionship.
Chicken bits soaked with a drop of rat poison might help.
Now, that cruel Trt.
trt...that's terrible..

how about a child's water pistol...a few well aimed squirts of water should see the other cat off...
Does he have a home? If not he may have chosen your MIL to be his owner
If you read bronners post 20SilkCuty they have tried the water thing.
Lion poo will do the trick. It works! (Natural predatory solution)
Now where to get some ... Anywhere near a Safari park?
..into a sack with a couple of bricks. Off to the nearest lake.... :)
Easier solution to the Lion poo thingy, take the cat to the zoo and feed it to the lions!
Yet another sick person advocating harm to cats.

It sounds to me like the male cat has got a bit confused and thinks the female cat is in season.
You could get one of those sprays from the vet that neutralises the smell of a female cat in season.
Does she know who it belongs to? if it is a stray then a number of cat sanctuaries/charities do a catch, neuter , release back scheme Mr tom becoming Nobby no nuts shoud solve the problem.
I threw a jug of water at the cat annoying us. It only caught his tail end as he ran off but he never came back
To all you numpties who are saying the cat should be killed:
Do you really mean it?
Would you advise the same if this were a dog?
All cats are annoying...
I feel the same about most dogs salla but I would never hurt one or advocate hurting one.
Sorry daff - didn't read any of the posts - just the initial one. It's Silly Friday for me.

I am a notorious non-cat lover. They scare me. But I could or would never hurt one. Ignore me.
try the zoo poo thing it worked on my garden.stopped the foxes coming in and pooing everywhere.
I found a pressure wash much more effective them a water pistol
a pressure washer could seriously injure a cat or other small animal if it was used at close quarters, irresponsible suggestion
You can buy Lion Dung stuff at Garden centres, but don't know how that would affect your Mother-in-laws cat. Maybe ask the vet about her own cat to check whether she is actually still emitting some scent, maybe the spaying didn't work fully or something.
