A lot of the time there isn't much warning. They are a little more restless, can seem to be searching around for a place to give birth. Just before I've noticed that they often lay on their sides & pant a little bit....then you start to see their flanks ripple slightly with contractions.

You may also see a small amount of bloodstained discharge before any kittens arrive.

Yup - that about sums it up. But the pacing and panting can go on for ages!
I also read once that they begin cleaning themselves meticulously, I know they clean alot normally, but a lot more than usual.
Has your cat had its 'kittens' yet?
My cat started cleaning its self trying to get comfy and we just knew, then within 30mins she had one, But be careful and watch your cat if you can because mine had to go to the vets for them to get the other one out, it was very distessing for us all. but she is fine and the little ones.
