Will a cut pine cone still open up?

I've cut a pine cone in half length-ways, from tip to base, sanded it and oiled it - the grain is beautiful! Anyway, I only did this yesterday and I'm wondering if the pine cone will expand and open up as I think this might ruin the look of it. Couldn't seem to find anything on Google so I thought this would be the best place to ask! Thank you xx
