does your current employer not tot up your days off sick? surely the more you take, the more likely you are to get into trouble? obviously you can't take 1 day off with swine flu.. it would have to be believable.

why not use a day's annual leave instead?
Is there any reason you can't ask for a days holiday? If you are going for another job you cannot let the new company know you are the type who skives off work with a lie about sickness. Does your firm not have domestic emergency days for staff?
in view of the above garbled message I pmsl at your username.....

whats a domestic emergency? i have not taken one day off sick there in a year that i have been there but was just going to take this day for the interview...they made us book all our holidays a year in advance, so cant really take it as holiday
they make us book our holidays a year in advance.......***
imagine you wake up tomorrow and the water pipes have burst, you can't go to work because you have to sort out a domestic emergency, many firms allow for the unexpected unpredictable event such as that, or a family emergency like an accident or your car is stolen etc etc. use your noggin!!!
diorhea (sic) can be a days illness......
I was under the impression that workplaces had to let you go for interviews even if it was within your normal working hours? But maybe I'm thinking of the rules if you're on redundancy notice?
your thinking of redundancy rukes Sophie.

I can;t understand the makign you book your holiday a year in advance bit though. that's a bit odd!
You have to play 'the rule of 2'! Never take just one day off....
HR people aren't stupid, you know.
Decisions surrounding whether to discipline (or not) work on the number of occasions of absence. So it matters not whether it's one day or two days or 57 days - it's still an occasion of absence that gets totted up as part of a process.
