I am having my house renovated and am worried that if i take my cats away with me they are going to go balistic - 6 weeks indoors in a small flat - and i won't be able to let them out in case they get lost.I can leave them at my house - the builder is a cat lover and will feed & look after them and I can call in and check up on them once a day, but am worried that they may be frightened or run away - does anyone have any advice here

I have just had the same problem. After a lot of thought I decided that the best thing would be to take them to a cattery whilst the work was done. That way they would be together, safe, cared for and I could visit them. As it was going to be for a few weeks and I had 10 cats, I managed to negotiate a fixed fee with the cattery. At this time of year they do not tend to be as busy as they are in the summer. The cattery allowed them to mix as they would at home and they got the fresh air they needed in the exercise pens. I could visit them daily and help feed them and play with them and didn't have to worry if they were frightened or would run away or get hurt.

When I took them home to the renovated house with all new carpets and furniture they took about an hour to investigate and sniff, find the food and litter trays and then they just found their beds and slept. Next day it was life as usual.

I know it is an added cost but you obviously care for them and trust me it is worth it.

Good Luck
