My mother has been diagnosed with osteoporosis, she has been told she has 2 cracked bones in her spine, they dont seem to be able to get her pain relief sorted.
has anyone else had dealings with this and if so what do you take for pain relief.

Has she tried a TENS machine at all? I use one for my chest wall pain and it works wonders.I have to use it for 90 minutes 3 times a day(as advised by pain specialist) every day to get constant relief from my pain. The effect of a TENS is cumulative so she may not notice instant pain relief if she decides to try it out. You can buy a really good machine online. The model I use is a TPN 200 plus and it was given to me by the hospital pain clinic on loan for free, you can buy the same model and replacement pads online:

Yes we bought her one but it has been out of the box once, she tryed it once didnt like it she said it felt like spiders all over her ,she is so stubborn wont give it a chance and try it again
Like you said it wont work straight away,it is cumilative ,but she expected it to be like a magic wand.
They do take a bit of getting used to,maybe she could try using it on a lower setting at first until the sensation is not so odd. They are definitely woth persevering with and I would much rather have the tingling sensation than the pain any day of the week! lol
If she is too stubborn though I suppose no amount of nagging will make her try it again :(
I dont see osteoporosis as a diagnosis for cracks in spinal column. She needs prescribed pain killers and monitoring their consumption by her GP, for the side effects. Call the doc or get a 2nd opinion.
Question Author
Yes she is under her doctor and being monitored but nothing seems to work,Just wondered how others in this situation coped.
I have the same problems as your mother but I was told I had two fractured vertabrae which I suppose is the same as your mother has been told. My Dr put me on Fentanyl patches which have been a terrific help controlling the pain. It would be worth asking her dr his thoughts on using this form, of pain relief.
Question Author
Are they a form of morphine.because she had morphine patches and they made her ill.
Yes I am afraid they are. I was fortunate I suppose as I was able to tolerate them.
I hope you will be able to find something that will help her and ease the pain.
