My dog was castrated at 5 months old. He has just "tied" with a bitch on heat - is this normal?

Dogs "humping" can be a learned action - my boy still tries but has also been done. Tho I left it untill 18 months when all his growing had been done, so he had longer to get into the habit. Tho his humping is mainly the poofey in the lounge!!
How long since he was castrated - it can take up to six months for the 'urges' to disappear and in some cases they still try but usually this only happens when it is a learned behaviour rather than an instinct.

For his sake and the bitches, keep him away from bitches in season, he can be injured or damage the bitch if she is not
fully receptive.

Thank you for your imput. The dog was castrated over six months ago, which is why I was surprised that he was able to tie with the bitch - I didn't think the system worked after castration! I just hope the urge - and the ability - will disappear with time.
Meantime I will just have to make sure he doesn't meet a bitch on heat - this one was due to be neutered before coming on heat but she beat us to it!
