White butterflies and whitefly

All the commercial sprays for catterpillars and whitefly on veggies are quite expensive when you consider that you have to mix 20ml into half a litre of water. I guess they are not very "green" either. Does anyone know of a homemade, friendly, concoction that can be mixed and used to keep things under control on an allotment??
I thought maybe rhubarb leaves?? or the like?
Interested to hear your thoughts.
