Dog travel

My husband and I are starting to look at getting out to New Zealand to emmigrate.
Looked into all the quarantine etc and it's all good for us but we want to transport our dog on a flight.
One problem - I can't bear the thought of her on a plane in a box in a dark hold!!!
Does anyone know of any pet friendly airlines or of any way of avoiding this?

AKAIK no commercial airline will allow any type of animal in the passenger cabin except properly trained seeing-eye dogs.

Why not contact the NZ kennel club, I'm sure they'll be able to give you a lot of info on international transport of dogs.

Visit the DEFRA website for details of transporting animals.

The airline you are going to use will give you information as to how the animals will travel. When my dog flew to Finland he was in a lit, temperature controlled hold.

Air New Zealand take pets, here is their information leaflet. They travel in a temperature controlled special area of the hold
which is kept at 59 degrees.
