I think if the rat is outside and doing no harm you should just leave it alone. If its eating the bird food its likely to come back though. I dont think I could kill a rat even if it were inside, I felt really bad when we had mice once and had to put poison down.

I really love tame rats, they are so sweet, friendly and playful. Its lovely when they run up your arm to your shoulder and sit squeaking in your ear :)
I quite like rats.My daughters have had 4 pet rats and they are very friendly intelligent creatures.Unfortunately I developed an allergy to them and was hospitalised with a severe reaction so we can't have any around now :-(

aka I dont think you would like this rat running up your arm . Not kidding but it must be at least 14inches long nose to tip of tail . it must have a nest under my shed as that is were it keeps going to and from . I could let my kat.out but at 14yers old he has no chance
god no i wouldnt like a wild rat running up my arm, especially that one it sounds massive. Awww your poor cat wont be able to enjoy being in the garden with the rat around. I dont know what to suggest to get rid of it other than poison and I really would hate to do that :( but if its under your shed you will have to do something as they can be really vicious if they think they are being threatened. Would be awful if it attacked anyone including the cat.

Define (vermin)
they may carry germs and you can guarentee he is not alone, he probably has hundreds of other rats, if you feed it then you are introducing more rats, not just to your house but to all your neighbours as well
To me, vermin= spreaders of disease=rats

Hey dusty, if you are happy to have rats living in your garden that is up to you, do yopur neighbours and the council know they are there?, if they get into your house, they will eat through the cables and ruin the loft, but it is obviously up to you, I would get rid now.
but ray, my Derek is a rodent! I couldnt kill one either dustypuss. So long as he isnt in your house.
I bet you any amount of money it's not a lonely spinster or bachelor rat!
If it knows where there is food it will come regularly and before you know it, it will be in your house...with it's relations.
You are doing yourself no favours. Kill it.
Julie derek is a hamster, not a flea ridden, germ carrying rat, derek will do harm this nasty git living under the shed will breed like hell cos they are very sociable animals, he will not be alone.read this and decide.
