I normally have a garden full of 'em and they go through the food at a rate of knots.Shortly before Christmas I filled all their peanuts and fatballs up and even bought them meal worms and dried insects And they have not been touched Have they found a better gourmet garden somewhere else ? They all seem to have disappeared completely .
Even the blackbirds and the Lone Ranger robin are conspicuous by their abscence .
Any ideas ?

I can see you Cetti ......full steam ahead !
I can't get to grips with the new look and only look at the actual home page to look at the profile thingy and then revert to the old AB where it is much safer with no risks of incarceration in that smelly dungeon !
very odd- like most others I can only report that my garden is as active as ever with the local bird population. You haven't got a raptor moved into the area or a new moggy in the area making use of your garden? Having said that when the moggies near me visit the garden the birds move back in as soon as the cats go. My own cat is no bother- she birdwatches as much as I do but never bothers them. A puzzle!

Hi burnhal and a happy new year to you. It is indeed a complete mystery .They are even absent from my neighbours gardens . In spite of the cats the birds were always about and the feeders etc are placed well away from predators .
When you suggested a raptor that could be a possibility as I have seen the odd sparrowhalk floating around . This morning I saw a bird perched on the telephone wire and thought ....aha....a raptor ..but on closer inspection through my binos found it was a young woodpigeon !
It wasn't me what ate your birds, but it could have been some of my pals.

Us cats do eat birds but I think that we are getting bad press. Cats and birds have been around since I was young (I am three this year) and they will continue to be around until I am old. I think that the culprit is a big scary bird.

I hope that your birds come back - I am an avid bird watcher because I live indoors and have never tried to attack any bird, but the pigeons on the roof are noisy and one day I might get out the Velux window and.........
