The vet could prescribe Metacam, which is no good for long term use, but to be honest at 14 you are only looking to relieve the pain for the immediate future. There are some natural or homeopathic remedies, such as Denes Greenleaf, and anything containing glucosamine, but for heavy duty pain relief something prescribed by the vet would be best.

A Bioflow collar can also help, look on ebay as they are cheaper on there.
Bioflow collars are very good for all sorts of ailments, a Golden retriever I used to walk had quite bad arthritis so I suggested to her owners to try one, within 2 months she was a new dog without any other medication. This was a 12 year old dog. Also a friend of mine has a gsd who was having at least 3 epileptic fits a week so I suggested she try one of these collars and guess what he hasn't had a fit for 5 weeks now. So I would say give it a go. If something works on animals it isn't a con. Good luck. Gelda.
