French Lops - what age do they develop

I have a young french lop rabbit (male) who is now just over 6 months old. he was checked ove by the vet about a month and a half ago and i was told that i could get him neutered when his testicles had dropped and that this should happen at about 4-6 months old. there still doesnt appear to be any sign of them and i was wondering if this was normal!? also, when does the fat start to grow on his head?
