Can anyone tell me what is the deer rut? and what does this mean.

The Rut is the generic term applied in effect to the breeding season of most deer species. It is the period- of from a month to three months- depending on the species- where the males disploay, call, fight off rivals and try to hold onto a territory containing females, in order to mate with them when they come into season
