My wire haired jack russell as many little idiosyncrasies (as do we all ;-0) but the 2 that really puzzle me is when he jumps in the car (his taxi, obviously) he starts running front paws vigorously till he tires himself out, stops, catches his breath & starts again, till the car is in motion, why is this? The other is when he knows that it's time to go out the door, any door (this is the only way I can describe it) is rev up, by kicking all his legs a few times in quick succession and then puts his nose as close to the door he can? I love would to know (as much is possible) what's going through his lovely little mind.

Hi Maggie, sorry I can't actually answer your question but thought I'd tell you about the weird thing my 2 Schnauzer cross dogs do.
They are brothers and whenever I go to empty the kitchen bin one of them goes crazy, really high pitched barking and running to and from the back door, it's like he's really excited, meanwhile his brother will come running into the kitchen and try to eat as much food as possible while I'm tying the back up!

They both do this every time, I've no idea why. It's not like anything exciting happens on the way to the bin!!
Sorry! should say 'tying the bag up'. Ooops!

My Dogs goal in life is the constant possibility of scraps of food...No wonder we love 'em ;-) Thanxs for the reply.
Our JR does a similar thing at the door sometimes. he can be just stood in the kitchen and if we open the door he shoots out (right to the bottom of our 150 foot garden!) barking as though he were chasing something. He also does this sometimes if he is asleep in the front room. He just suddenly jumps up and off he goes!

By the way we hate taking him in the car even on the shortest journey. From the moment we reach the top of our road he starts whining and hardly ***** up until we stop. He is kept in cage and would stop if he were allowed out.
