Although they may nibbble at a ittle bit, they will probably make a bed of it instead, and use it as a toilet! So really not a lot of point if you have already given them some soft shredded paper bedding.

You have to watch hamsters don't get too hot when they use hay instead of straw for bedding
I thought you shouldn't use hay for hamsters-I always used sawdust and that shredded jay cloth bedding stuff. Also, if you've got a paper shredder, hamsters love shredded paper for making beds-and it's free! (but make sure it's plain paper, because ink is poisonous if they eat it)
