I am considering having a go at this myself as I think the prices are astronomical.

Have you had a go - how did you go about it - do you have any plans or tips????

My grandad built a field shelter. He made it out of a wooden framework, covered in corrugated iron sheets. He didn't have any plans, just made it up as he went along. All the materials were salvage: used floor joists and used iron sheets.

That was 40 years ago, and it's still standing and still use, though for storage, as the pony died decades ago.

Not much actual help to you, I know!

Not at all - I just think its worth having a go!!!
My old boy was in field with a home made shelter for a while - they had used four square posts for the uprights (about a foot square) and the main part was covered in half round rails (like you get as rails on fencing). This made a very attractive looking shelter and it stood up to even old fatty rubbing and chewing it! It was treated with the usual weather resistant stuff.

Oooh Lankeela - never even thought of that!!! - I live on a farm and we have loads of piles (1/2 round fence post) just lying around!!!

Thanks xx
