Yes, people have drowned because they have flipped over (face down) and cant get turned the toher way

exactly just as its possiblt to drown in 5mm of water, as long as your nose and mouth are in it, yes you can drown

I was there last november and we were told only to float on our backs for the reasons stated above.
BTW if you do decide to take a dip, make sure you have any cuts covered up (and wear flip flops) or they will really stind due to the high salt content
