Hi all :)
Just started taking Jack to the beach. He absolutely LOVES it, and I spend hours cleaning sand off both of us and the furnishings when we get home!
Just a quick question-when he's been through the water, he seems to spit it out and it's, well, foamy I guess. Does anyone else's dog do this? Is it just the salt in the water? I take plenty of fresh water for him to drink and rinse his mouth with.
Thanks! :)

Sea water can make them ill. Extra sodium in the body can affect the blood circulation and can be dangerous if they inhale sea water.
Mind you ..I was at a festival thing here where I live last Sunday and they had Newfoundland dogs doing a rescue display in the river .It doesn't seem to affect them. I take Shaney on the beach and he goes in the sea but he seems to keep his head above water if you know what I mean and I have never had any sicky business with him.
No doubt an expert will be along to help soon !!

Hey thanks :)
I realise an excess of salt can make him ill-he tends to splash, and doesn't drink the water. I just notice if he has swallowed some in excitement he spits back. I guess it's only what we would do!Would have liked to have seen the Newfoundland rescue display!

Cheers :)

They are lovely ..I took a picture of one here
