we were quoted 40 for a normal nail wash etc.. for our9 month old setter. he doesnt have all the feathers that an adult red setter has, but i still think this excessive.
views please and how much should it be?

That does seem rather expensive but then what do I know! I've got 2 westies and it cost me 30 to have both of them done. I know my dogs are smaller than yours but have you got anyone you could get a recommendation from, that's always the best way to find a good groomer, also ask at the local vets. Good luck.

after ringing around a lot - not many in my area and some wont do large dogs - found one who will charge 20. Much better. half the price. so we will see how good she is and what my pup looks like when shes done.
i say puppy but he is already 22kg and stands from ground to head at just under 3 ft! and still growing !!!!! bless him :]
Glad you found someone a bit more reasonable. The real test will be not how much they charge but if your dog is ok with them. My girls love going to see maddie and can't wait to get in there but when I bathe them at home (which is very rare!) they hate it. I would pay thousands if she asked me to just cos my two adore her. Hope it goes well and I'm sure he'll look the DBs when he's done haha :-)
That must be a very upmarket pooch parlour !!
I pay 21 for my Shaney a large GS /Lab cross. This includes nail clipping, stripping out his thick double coat ,glands ,bath, and whatever lovely stuff they spray him with as goes out of the door.He always looks nice afterwards until he has been for his dip in the sea and rolled about in the garden !!
I pay 27 each for my two shih-tzus. There are not too many places around here. A few mobiles, but I don't really like them done at home. I have been going to the same one for 7 yrs. It started at 18, so I suppose it's a fair price.
40 is very expensive, particularly as they do not need to be clipped, only bathed and dried, and the other odds and ends seen to.

Westies and many other breeds need a lot of clipping and scissoring, and dematting, which is what takes the time (and therefore costs more).
