how do i stop 9 month old cat scratching wallpaper of 2 corner walls. She is an indoor cat who has plenty of toys and a activity centre which has 5 scratching posts on it. We also have a cat 6 months older for her to play with. This scratching mainly occurs while I'm at work

hi you could try a) spraying current scratch post with catnip spray or b) i've heard cats don't like the feel of tinfoil so you could try putting it over the places they are choosing to scratch.

if they do do it when your in you should go to them every time say no to them and take them to the scratch post they can use. cats are very much creatures of habit so you must try to be more pesistant than them.

hope this helps good luck.
To add to what obione said, you should put your kittys paws on the post when you stop her and take her to the post.. The tin foil idea has been suggested to me too but it has no effect on my kitty.
mine's 6 and she's taking down the horrible woodchip but by bit, have tried everything and can't stop her!

You can get sticky strips to stick to places where cats scratch and it deters them.

Don't know where you get them, though!
There is a spray you can get called 'Get Off!' spray which is citrus scented and designed to be sprayed on carpets, upholstery, walls etc... I agree that the best response is a firm loud 'No' command coupled with loud hand claps. You can also get rattan mats that are designed to be hung on walls - you could maybe put those up over the wallpaper? It is a hard problem with cats because it is such a natural instinct for them to scratch. You could also try providing more tempting surfaces for the cats to scratch - normal scratching posts are made of carpet. But cats love to click their claws on wicker - try leaving out a wicker basket for them. Also they like to scratch wood. You could try to get a big piece of driftwood for them. If they like the alternative enough, they might leave your walls alone! Good luck.
