It's a kitten thing! When my cat was little he used to do the same with my arm, wrap his paws around it and then gnaw on it! His claws were like little needles and his teeth were pretty sharp too - I was covered in scratches/bites for weeks. Luckily he grew out of it. I used to yank him off and smack his nose (lightly) and say 'No!' - he soon got the message.

hey thanks cheekychops i think i'll try that! nice one.

Awww I used to love that, it's kinda like a rugby tackle move isn't it?

My old cat, who sadly passed on a few years back also used to love to lie on the back of the sofa and then drop like a bullet on the back of the dog if he walked past, pure evil, but funny as anything.

Please do NOT smack your cat, no matter how lightly you plan to do it, it can backfire and make them more aggressive or make them fear you and avoid you, those are 2 ways they can perceive this...it may work in a small number of cases, but every cat is different, IMHO I figure if you resort to hitting or smacking any animal you have lost.

Go to this website and let a pro explain it:

click on "articles" go to "Aggression towards People", look at Play therapy I and II.

aaaw it's only playing because it loves you! My kittens were like that (I had three kittens and their mum at one point lol) and I would be standing in the kitchen and they used to shimmy up my leg and start chewing :-)
I've never hit any of my cats, if they are hurting me I blow in their face, they really dont like that but it doesnt hurt them.
Our cats do it after they have been stroked and it is a sign of affection , we just ignore them to the point of moving away and they dont like that because it stops the very thing they were enjoying so they soon learn as well .The thing about hitting animals is that they dont necessarily relate it to the thing you think is a problem they may think you are doing it
