he scents at my dads house because there is a dog there,i wanted to know if this will stop when he is neutered.its not as simple as not taking him anywhere is it?
The best time to castrate a male dog is around five to six months before he starts to lift his leg.He is just trying to show that he is top dog and mark out his territory because of the other dog It's a form of one upmanship.
In the meantime I would just avoid situations that promote naughty behavior until he has been done. If you have to take him to your Dads in the meantime and he looks as if he about to mark then a sharp reprimand and take him straight outside.
Part 2. because AB won't let me submit properly !!

You may have to repeat the performance but he should get the message. Once he is neutered the problem should stop. Although he may still mark when out in parks etc. It's like a calling card with them !!
Good luck ..I am sure he will settle down after the op and with a bit of kind but firm handling he should be O.K.
There is some stuff called Bitter Bite that you can get .It's to stop dogs chewing up but if you just spray it round where he has marked before he won't go there because of the smell.
Just to follow up on shaneystar, my dog is 10 years old and obviously does a reasonable amount of marking when he's out, but behaves when he is indoors. The only place I have to be ready to be a bit sharp with him is a deliciously- smelling corner of the reception desk in the vet's!
