What's my cat up to when he bites my feet during the night?! I daren't slip a foot outside the covers for fear of feeling a pincing bite on one or other of my toes - what's my cat up to?!

This seems to be playful behaviour ... yes I know it doesn't seem like it but to a cat it does. Cats by nature tend to be nocturnal .. and behaving like this is a spin off of hunting ... your foot being the prey!!.

That sounds probable WendyW. Why do you think the foot rather than anything else?!
Its not just feet its anything they can get their little paws on ... so take great care!!!! The joys of being owned by cats ........
Cats hunt small things - mice, rats etc and your toes are about the same size. Plus during the night feet normally move alot so to the cat it looks like a small mouse moving around. You prob play wiht you cat by getting it to chase small mouse shapes that you dangle above it etc. Its just re-playing what you do with it during the day. So either lock the door so it cant get in or wear socks to bed or dont play with it.
Reminding you what a bad idea getting a cat was.
