Imagine a four leaf clover but with purple leaves, what are they called? There are loads of these lovely little purple flowers about 1-2 inches high outside my apartment block. When you look at a big swathe of them they look all fuzzy and weird a bit like watching a 3D Film without 3D glasses.

Thanks

It sounds like oxalis, which, if you're a gardener, is far from lovely. An absolute nightmare & impossible to get rid of once you've had a big patch of it.

sorry to not share your enthusiasm Sweet G! :o)

Yer, oxalis was the first thing i thought of but the "weed" oxalis has yellow flowers.

I know there is a taller, ornamental cultivated oxalis with lilac flowers which sometimes goes under the name of shamrock.

They are indeed the baine of gardeners lives. They spread like wildfire from underground shoots and also have the ability to fire their seeds over a wide distance.

In addition to the other posts, here's a few pic's of Oxalis for you Sweet G.
