I know for certain that Tyneandtyneagain died, haven't heard of any others.
The above horse died, having fallen at the first fence, it then got up and carried on riderless, then fell again at a later fence , and was fatally injured. He was the only fatality.
Had to be at least one, that race is disgusting and i don't care what anyone says,
Ask yourself this, why did the above mentioned horse get up and jump again ?
because he wanted to sharpy

I think maybe what sharpy was getting at was it means the horses will want to race and jump through instinct, not because they are forced as some people suggest. Correct me if I am wrong.

Fances ...make smaller....more horses in race at end...better for all.

Simple....anyone know why the GN organisers don't do this?

Sorry that should read fences....not fances...lol

Because if fences were smaller the spectacle wouldn't be so exciting. True, horses do love jumping and certainly love racing against one another, try riding and holding yours back if another horse goes past you. Having said all that I can't watch racing, I can't bear it when they fall.

Does anyone know if the Scottish National statistics are any better? My partner is taking me next Saturday and I know I will get really upset if a horse dies. I have been to loads of race meetings all over the country and luckily never seen anything upsetting so far.
Yes Ali,thankyou
