fleas on horses?

Hi,


I have a friend who has a passionate dislike towards horses, due to being a horse widow with his ex...Anyway, he says that horses have fleas, I said that they do not....And now thinking about it.Why don't horses have fleas...I am glad that they don't..But why??????


I hope that there is a horsesy person out there that knows the answer.

Having raised horses most of my life here in the western U.S., I can attest to the fact that horses don't get fleas. They do get ticks, but a veterinarian friend says fleas have a natural aversion to horse skin. It may have something to do with the horses skin being much thicker than other animals who the fleas infest...
