How can I stop my deaf dog from barking? She is brilliant in the house but when we go out for walks she barks at everyone we see. Its really embarassing everyone in the street stops and stares.

Have you tried a muzzle ?
First you need to know why he barks. Deaf dogs hate being outside of their territory, they can't hear danger so have to bark to frighten people or other dogs. If you really have to take your dog out into the street, keep him close to you and reassure him with strokes and pats.
You can get those little air puffers ..you know the sort of thing they use to clean camera lenses..... as soon as she starts to bark puff it in her face.It won't hurt ..the puff of air will only startle her and then she will stop..reward her straight away with a little tidbit and make a fuss of her.I would try this off the street in a park or somewhere.Get someone to come along who she will bark at but keep it one to one.The more people the more distressed she will be.
You may have to repeat this for a while but she should soon get the message.I don't think hand signals would be any good as you have to back these up with commands which she obviously can't hear.
She must have exercise so try to take her where there are not too many people about.
