Er, have you thought about taking him to see a vet?

If it was your granny doing this, would you post on here or would you call the doctor?

Question Author

weve already been to the vet for his breathing yesterday and we told them about this and they cldnt find anything

Right, what was he given yesterday? And how old is he exactly?

It's possible he's had some form of stroke, or he may have some form of neurological problem. He may even have problems with his sight or balance.

It really might be best that he sees the vet again, particularly if this is affecting his quality of life. They might have a clinic in the morning - until then keep him quiet and as calm as possible (avoid disturbing him unnecessarily) and make sure the layout of his cage is exactly the same as he is used to.

he was given an anty flammitru injection and prescirbed baytril 0.25 ml twice a day
it might just be your rat is trying to get higher to get good quality of air if he or she is having a job breathing... then they will try to get as high as possible i had a rat that had upper respiratory where it seamed as though she always had a cold (Common in Rats) and then it went to her lungs and had a job breathing, can you hear her chest weaze if you put her body to your ear...or noises when she or he breathes....

yeh thts why we took him to the vets to get some medication coz his breathing was quite bad he about 2 and a half now

hopefully the injection will kick in soon and make her a little better, you have got her in a cage and not a tank i take it as tanks make them worse, and try to keep her out the drafts and in a warmish not damp room as its like a permenant cold and try and get some vitamin drops or anything to build her imune system up abit but she will get as high up as she can coz shes having a job breathing.....good luck
