I am presuming the answer is yes, but my real question is what is it and can it be fixed.

My daughter has 2 shabunkins(SP). Today whilst giving the tank a complete clean out we noticed that the smaller of the two has one eye completely covered in a white coating and the second one is starting to develop this coating aswell.

What is this and is this something that can be fixed by adding something to their water or will they be joining her last goldfish in the animal cementery at the bottom of the garden?

not having seen for myself, i would suggest maybe trying AQUARIUM TREATMENT ANTI-BACTERIAL NUMBER 9.most things are bacteria related. i would also say that you should never completely clean out an aquarium if you can help it.under a quarter of the water should be changed regularly.if you have a filter, it should be cleaned only using water from the tank and SAFE WATER plus CYCLE BACTERIA stuff should be added after a water change.hope this may help if not too late now,for the future.
